Rope baskets - DIY

12 April 2016

I can blame (or rather thank) the clever Mel of onecraftymumma for this latest little project of mine.
I spotted them in my Insta feed and let out a rather audible sigh....I just had to give them a go.

I began with the table mat you can see under the basket...it was a simple start... it allowed me to learn the machine tension and the best way to add the fabric scraps. In fact I made two of these table mats before progressing to the basket.

Wouldn't you know... half way into my basket I ran out of rope....and so did the shop I bought it from. Six weeks before they had more .. they said! I sobbed all the way home.
It arrived about six weeks later (they didn't lie) and I reacquainted myself with my project and finished it off.

Let me assure you.. my rope stash is replenished... no short supplies foreseen in the future and a few more basket ideas await.

Oh and check out these links..
there is so much gorgeous inspiration out there...

  1. Hello Mardi, over popped into blogsville hoping to see a close up and you did not disappoint. I can imagine your disappointment at running out of rope. The finished product looks fantastic. I love the light, airy vibe about your blog. I am sitting here in the orthodontist as Belle is getting fit for her braces. Later I am going to treat myself to a cup of tea and a blog date with The Love Supreme. XO

    2. Hello Lea....how lovely to have you pop over (or 'over pop'... that made me chuckle) Thanks for the lovely comment...and I'm glad the closeup shot was ok...I did intend adding one to instagram yesterday for you but typically my phone storage was full and it wouldn't allow me to take the photo. (I got that problem sorted last night.) Good luck with the braces too... Mitch and Briony both had them...they are very uncomfortable at first but settle and the end results are wonderful. I hope Bella isn't too sore this morning..
      Much love...Mardi x

    1. My thanks goes to you Mel.... you are so inspirational and such a sweetie sharing your crafty loves. I actually have you in mind when I look at my basket. Not long now until our trips! I made an applique pouch but I am unhappy with it...it was such a lot of countries to try and incorporate..I'm rethinking it. Totally agree with your last sentiment..Yay for rope baskets and travel patches indeed. xx

  5. Very crafty indeed. I need to pick up my game of craftiness, the table mat looks like something I could do - going off now to check out sources in my local craft store before I get too excited ... wishing you a happy week ahead

    1. I am wishing you luck sourcing some rope so you can get crafty too...it was quite therapeutic sitting and stitching it together too. I found the rope at our local 'cheap store' I am not sure if you have those type of stores...but it was in the hardware section labelled as clothes line. Its a soft cotton type rope. Hope you are having a lovely week as well. x

  6. oh I love these....love your colors and scrappy fabrics....I made a dyed one recently too which was fun and messy..... I bought my rope from a cheapy shop and am dying to get into some more.... thanks for the links , I hadn't seen the twisted fabric on them, would be good for covering joins....

    1. Mmmm dyed rope would look amazing! I would love to see some pics! I can imagine the mess I would make with dye ...but I can envisage a gorgeous ombre type effect.
