H A N D M A D E - Esme tunics

9 October 2016

I can never quite make up my mind to be honest...
I love the idea of a 'handmade wardrobe' where everything is upcycled... repurposed...custom made and the fabrics can be chosen with 'organic and low tox' in mind.

Then on the other hand....I sway toward a very minimal well chosen wardrobe... a 'capsule wardrobe' of sorts...but built on a less rigorous  template.

Anyway..... while I sort all that out in my head.... I did buy an absolutely awesome book at the suggestion of Mel (onecraftymumma)....its the Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style book... and its full of super simple pieces that were a cinch to make.

I kicked off with the Esme Tunic.... I cut the first from an upcycled piece of fabric just to get the fit...
and then snipped into a lovely soft denim when I knew I had it right.

Mid-process.... some hemming to do...

Here I am  wearing my Esme tunic whilst on holiday in Sydney....
a day spent visiting very special friends...Janelle and Kim.

  1. That's such a lovely photo at the end!

I know exactly what you mean. One half of my personality wants to make it all..dresses, tunics, sweaters in pretty colours and the other half of my personality craves a simple, classic, expensive-fabric capsule wardrobe. I love what you have made: you are inspiring me. I definitely need that book.

    1. I hope you can source the book Sian...I have a feeling you would love it....it has some bag patterns in it as well which is great. Plus the simple patterns would go beautifully with your gorgeous knits.

  3. I like the simple tunic & I like how you have dressed it up in the last photo, which is the greatest thing about a simple basic wardrobe; dress it up, dress it down, it works.

    1. That is so true... a few accessories make all the difference to an outfit. I need to have a big clean out so I can see what I have and what works. Mardi x
