Handmade Wardrobe - basic T-shirt

Its always fun to make a pretty or fancy pattern... but the clothing I really want to perfect is the everyday basics... the pieces I will reach for over and over again.

Firstly I was keen to find a basic T-shirt pattern... I tried a couple before stumbling across what I think is my perfect Tee.

If you are after a lovely boxy shaped Tee ... give the Jesse Tee from True Bias a go... its a ripper of a pattern and its also FREE if you sign up for their newsletter. Personally... even though I loved this tee... it didn't really suit me...so I gifted it on. It suits its new owner perfectly.

Having tried the Jesse I knew I needed more of a scoop neck style... so I gave the Sparrow Tee by Common Stitch (also a FREE pattern) a try and loved it! My first version I made a little too oversized... but I sized down to my actual size for the next one and its brilliant. I mean who woulda thought making something the correct size would make it better.

My two Sparrow Tees pictured with some Safiya Trousers by Tilly and the Buttons.

Pattern: Sparrow Tee by Common Stitch + Safiya Trousers by Tilly and the Buttons.

Fabric: All the fabric used was Op Shop finds for around $4 a piece... my favourite fabric was the cream cotton knit it has a slight stretch but feels so lovely and organic.

Notes: The Sparrow Tee has a fantastic scoop neck and is true to size. I didn't need to make it oversized.

Style Note: I really want to love wide leg pants but I don't actually reach for them much. I always feel shorter than I already am ..I also need them to be a drapey fabric... the black cotton pair do not hang nicely at all. The fabric has too much structure for this style of pant.
