Project-De-clutter - walk in robe

17 June 2011

With a few extra days off this week I made a decision....
and that is...
Ive put off de-cluttering for long enough....
I'm tired of never being able to find things.
I'm tired of everything falling out when I open the cupboard...
having to jam things into gaps..
and particularly in our wardrobe I'm tired of spending precious time searching for that pair of jeans.....or that top.....then giving up because they are just buried too deep.

I don't know how I allowed it to get so bad...
I like our home to be neat..clean and tidy
and on the surface
it appears to be....
but lurking in the cupboards...and drawers
is mess.

nothing is in order...
and even when I tidy it....
in no time at all
I mess it all up again.

This time however I plan to succeed...
I'm going to cull....label...and make new permanent homes for things.

First up...
Our walk in robe...
This baby was OUT OF CONTROL....eeek
(be warned....seriously bad photos follow..
.although thankfully it has a door...so I never have to look at it for long lol)

So after a huge cull..... two bags into the charity bin....
and some rearranging...
all 'maybe' clothes into storage boxes on the top shelf...
its looking a LOT better.
(Although in these photos its very hard to pick the before and afters...lol)

I also colour sorted my clothing for the first time....
I'm hoping it will make them easy to find...
I am enjoying that only the clothes I wear and fit into are hanging or shelved in here now.
I was also a little surprised to see the repeat colours in my clothing...
a lot of grey....some black....a little pink
and the remainder are all rusty reds and oranges.

We have some serious shoe storage issues yet to be addressed....but that will be a future job to tackle.

Ahh.....that does feel a lot better...
Ohh.....please excuse the terrible photos.....
.its SO hard to photograph a tiny dark room with only a shoddy little light source.

I also wanted to say a big thank you...
for all the kind comments regarding my first 'What I wore Wednesday' post.
I was trembling in my boots putting it out there....
but its lovely to think that it may be of interest
and Im looking forward to sharing some more each week.

  1. OMG!!! The before photos look just like my wardrobe (except mine is worse)!!! I soooo need to do tackle this job too. I have lost a lot of weight so need to cull all the clothes that are too big for me that I can't wear now.

You might have just inspired me to go and do it!!!

    Thanks Mardi.

PS Loved your What I wore Wednesday post too.
