Hand stitched titles - as seen on the Jot Blog..

5 June 2015

I had a little feature up on the Jot Blog recently...
so I thought I would share it here as well.
This layout evolved from the recent ‘hand stitching gallery in Jot issue 9.
My aim was to incorporate hand stitching into an eye-catching title that complimented the soft pastel look of my layout.

I began by lightly tracing my word onto a sheet of Canson water colour paper, to make it easy I dug out an ancient pack of alphas with a huge font and traced them. An alternative would to be to simply print out a title in a font of your choice (Just remember you will need to stitch and then cut these alphas, so choose wisely… you might groan if you choose a fancy schmancy font that’s tricky to stitch and cut.)
Once the letters were traced onto my water colour paper I took a pin and pierced my stitching holes at regular spacing’s around each letter. (I stitched and then painted.. however you may prefer to give them a touch of watercolour at this stage before stitching.)

Grab a cuppa…and pop on a movie…its time to sit and stitch the outline of each letter with some embroidery thread (I used a black crochet cotton which was about the thickness of 2 strands of embroidery thread)
Once you have outlined each letter…if you haven’t already add some swipes of water colour paint in a colour to compliment your layout. When your paint is nice and dry …cut each letter out individually and attach to your layout with a hot glue gun or  your choice of adhesive. And you’re done!

Supplies used: Canson watercolour paper, watercolour paint and embroidery thread. Layout supplies: Cardsotck – Bazzil, Canson watercolour.  Patterned paper – American Crafts, Crate Paper. Embellishments – Crate Paper foil hearts. Alphabets – American Crafts, Studio Calico washi letters. Other – Heidi Swapp mists, die cut frond.
