The hashtag 'Make Nine' has always captured my attention... even when I wasn't actively sewing I loved to see everyone's plans and makes so this year I am inspired to give it a go.
Make Nine is a challenge to create nine chosen pieces throughout the year .. these pieces are generally chosen with an intention in mind... like creating pieces that might extend your technical skills.. fill a wardrobe need or use a piece of fabric or pattern from your stash that has languished there too long.
So.. I have given thought to my nine makes for this challenge and I'm super excited to make a start...
Here is a run down of my nine for the year -
1- The Style Arc - Bob Pants - I have this pattern in my stash and I'm keen to give it a go after seeing the Bob pants pop up a lot on my Insta feed. I struggle feeling comfortable in wide leg pants... perhaps because of my short legs. So I wondered if this shape would make me feel more proportioned? I haven't chosen a fabric yet but these are a definite in my nine.
2- The Jules Smit - Snow Top - I am in love with this piece... and its right up my alley. I love simple clean lines with a little quirk and this seems to fit the bill. I think Ill be kicking off with this one very soon - I am yet to buy the pattern and fabric.
3- The Tilly and the Buttons - Marnie Blouse - Ok so here is a contradiction... having just said I like simple clean line I also want to make this Marnie blouse. I picked up this pattern in the Black Friday sales because I had seen a few versions that I loved so much. The version I intend to make will be from a plain fabric...minus all the ruffles. I want a plain crew neck but with the little pin tuck details and no extra flounce. This is a make that I love in theory but I'm not too sure how Ill like it on.
4- The Blackbird Fabrics - Bestie Bag - I am not a bag girl.. but I would love to be. I just really like the loose comfy look of these bags and what a great way to use up some bits from my fabric stash.
5- The Closet Core - Pietra Pants - Yep.. another pair of pants. I am really keen to find a 'go-to' pant pattern I love... I want pants that fit like a glove and make me feel good. I loved the high waist and the pocket detail on the Pietra so I snapped up the pattern... but I have just procrastinated on them ever since. I am quite sure I would have a suitable fabric in my stash to at least make the shorts and check the fit.
6- The Birgitta Helmersson - Shirt Dress I was gifted the Zero Waste Patterns book this year by my family K.K and I am really keen to give a pattern a go. I love the look of the gathered shirt dress. I have never made a Zero Waste pattern before... but it sounds like something I would love.
7- A Wrap Dress - I have pictured here the Elodie Wrap Dress by Closet Core patterns - although I am not entirely sure yet which wrap dress pattern Ill choose. I want one that has a good 'wrap' because I'm not keen on flashing too much leg or showing too much cleavage. I do however have the fabric for this one... I have a Rayon fabric in a Cypress green which I can imagine wearing in Autumn.
8- The Samford Set - a pattern by Sew to Grow and Peppermint Magazine- I really don't wear collars or button-ups... but I am keen to give them a go...so what better way than to make a pair of jammies. I bought this pattern some time ago and I have oodles of fabric that would make a great pair of jammies.. so I might add this one near the top of my list.
9 - The Seamwork - Lisa Cardigan - This is another pattern I'm not 100% sure on yet... but I want to make a cosy cardigan / jumper for wearing at home in the mornings / evenings. Its something I know I would reach for and is missing in my wardrobe. This was a free pattern and I have it in my pattern stash... so it would be an economical make.
There is no doubt that Ill be making more than these nine pieces.. but I love a challenge and sometimes I need that to motivate me toward the trickier makes.
I would love to hear about any 'make nine' plans you have for the year?
