The GAYU Shorts (Patterns by Paary) - another awesome pattern test.

I got a little excited when I noticed Gowri from Patterns by Paary had called for pattern testers for her new pattern the GAYU SHORTS.

(My 4th pair of Gayu Shorts worn with a Rani Top - both Patterns By Paary)

I was really keen especially since I had been lucky enough to test her last pattern the Rani Dress and not only did I absolutley love the pattern...but I also loved the testing experience .. watching the evolution of the pattern from beginning to end.... and the beautiful Rani Dress and Top I made.

(These are my 2nd and most worn pair - and 4th soon to be most worn pair)

There was only one reservation for me... and that was taking photos of me wearing shorts..which is ridiculous really seeing as I live in shorts during the summer.
So I put aside my worries and jumped at the chance to test.... and boy was I happy I did!!

I absolutley LOVE these shorts.... I have now made 4 pairs and I know I will make more!

(My 3rd pair and much loved 2nd pair)

They are such a simple and quick sew... but with some lovely additions that make them look really polished. The pockets are brilliant ... deep and wide... and the topstitching gives them a little more structure and finish.

They have a full elastic waist... which I now know it my preferance. There is always a lot of talk about flat fronts and elastic backs... but I find for my shape that I prefer full elastic. The flat front styles Ive made seem to slide down at the front and have me constantly hoiking them up whereas full elastic feels firm and secure.

The only modifications I made was to lengthen the legs by 3" .. I prefer a little exra leg coverage these days. It was a simple mod - I just slashed all the leg pieces (including pocket) at the same point and added in 3".

I also want to mention these are great scrap buster shorts... I had a play with colour blocking for my first pair and it was a lot of fun imagining them in different combinations. The pattern pieces are all quite narrow so they can be made up easily from fairly small yardage which is brilliant too.

(My very first pair - I went on and made a Helens Closet Orchard Top to create a comfy pair of PJs.
I am not a fan of the colour of these... so I am considering dyeing them and earthy brown)

If you are looking for a wonderfully easy pattern for a really comfy pair of shorts then the Gayu Pattern is so worth a shot. I am smitten with them.
