HANDMADE WARDOBE - January and February Makes....

Two months into 2025 and I still have a love affair with my sewing machine (and my new dressmaking model Gracie) .. its been such a satisfying year so far.

I really enjoy the process of trying new patterns and discovering what suits me (and doesn't).. so although I have made a lot of garments its fair to say not all of them are my style or something I will wear so they have already been donated on.

So my sewing stats for January / February

I made a total of 24 items which was made up of..

5 Dresses
  • Simplicity 9029 (a pattern from the 90's which I really like)
  • Orchard Dress (a Helens Closet slip style dress - its also a free pattern)
  • McCalls 7969 (I have found that I love this dress if its made from a fabric with lots of drape)
  • Syd Tie Dress (an awesome pattern but next time Id take some puff out of the sleeves)
  • Zalia Dress by Style Arc (I used the wrong fabric and hated this - so its gone to the scrap pile

6 pairs of Pants / Shorts
  • 2 pairs of Pietra Shorts - my first pair was too big - second pair the fabric wasnt right.
  • 3 pairs of Gayu Shorts - my absolute favourite shorts pattern.
  • 1 pair of Lane Pants - I just feel Im too short for long wide leg pants.

Tops
  • Rani Top - a gorgeous little square neck top.
  • 2 x Snow Tops - first one was too large - second one was a bad fabric choice.
  • Orchard Top - a beautiful fitting cami top
  • Sparrow Tee - my favourite Tee pattern (and its a free one)

Skirt

  • Butterick 5441 (This was a vintage gathered skirt pattern and it confirmed I can NOT wear gathered skirts1)

Bags

Most of my makes were minimal cost makes ... I used either Op Shop fabric or fabrics that had been lingering in my stash. I did purchase some meterage from Spotlight as well.... making use of their 30% off sales.
My most expensive make was my McCalls 7969 in a forest green Rayon but even that was a very inexpensive dress at $35.00

I spent $87.90 on new patterns.. most of them chosen because I can see myself using them over and over in multiple ways.

My most favourite pattern / make was an unexpected one... it was the Gayu Shorts by Patterns by Paary
I just loved the fit of these immediately and I've lived in them ... I even used the pattern for some Pj bottoms. Its not often I make a pair of pants and feel like the fit is perfect.

So from these 24 makes I love and wear 14 pieces (which includes 3 bags) unfortunatley 2 of these makes I ruined with clothing dye... so they are off to the bin.  10 items have already been donated elsewhere or cut up for the scrap pile.

As I finish this post I realise its almost the end of another month.... and I have so much more to share in posts to come. Its been a fun pastime thats for sure.
